Dr Bernard Lee, founder and chief executive officer of Hedgespa, writes that a solid R&D base and a credible talent pool are required before applied research can be both innovative and commercially successful. Singapore needs to create success stories to demonstrate that academic and applied research are not mutually exclusive.
